YOGA: PATHWAY to HEALTH, INNER PEACE and SOUL CONNECTION

with Adam Bornstein

Yoga teacher since 1982, will be sharing a presentation and practise session.

Adam is the co-founder, with his wife Akash, of Radiant Light Yoga. They have been teaching and training yoga teachers here in Australia for 14 years.

Adam says, ” I am continually inspired to share this universal science of Yoga with receptive students. I am blessed to be a personal witness to the deep healing and transformation that occurs for so many individuals through yoga. Many people who never thought they could calm their restless body and mind find that it is possible through yoga’s progressive techniques. Some of the benefits include increased physical vitality, decreased tensions in body and mind, resilience to stress, and gaining a broader perspective on life. Yoga teaches that our true nature is calmness, but layers of unhealthy patterns cover up our natural peaceful self. Yoga practise can begin the process of dissolving the veils that separate us from our own inner bliss. Peace in the world starts with our own inner peace. All are invited to this session, whether you are a raw beginner or experienced, young or old, or whatever religion or cultural background you come from.”

If you have a yoga mat, cushion, and a blanket please bring it.
If not, come anyway and give yourself an opportunity to experience.

FORUM: HEALTHY SOIL, HEALTHY PEOPLE

She is lovely! She is great! It won’t take long for her to become a gardening celebrity!

Anyone that met Leonie  Shanahan feels she has a passion for health, especially for children. 11 years ago Leonie decided to change  the eating habits of children with positive actions by setting up Edible School Garden Programs in Schools where children have the hands on experience – learning about all aspects of permaculture and organic gardening.

It all starts in the soil.  Our soils have to be full of minerals and nutrients so that our plants are taking these up and we are eating the healthiest  food  possible. Healthy soils, healthy plants, healthy you.

Leonie has now set up 20 schools, held permakids workshops, spoken at conferences and has taught and changed the eating habits of 1000’s of students, and parents too!!!

In 2010 in response to Leonie experience and realising that so many people had no garden knowledge, Leonie wrote a book that simplifies organic gardening, easy to read and full of photographs to compliment the instructions, Eat Your Garden, organic gardening for home and schools.

In 2010 Eco Films began filming Leonie program which is now available to DVD.

Both her book and DVD are relevant to schools and home gardens.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING through CO-OPERATIVES

with Mark Snell

The cost of living is increasing dramatically, as the media is quick to tell us. The cost of food, retail goods and the utilities is the usual focus. These costs are nothing compared to the cost of housing, which has increased threefold compared to the average wage since the early 1980s. For most young people and many others who do not own homes, the prospect of owning their own home is remote.

Since the 1970s and before, rural landsharing communities have provided a low-cost option.  Increasingly, homes in these communities are becoming more expensive, often requiring a lifestyle change with a poorer quality of life.

Co-operative communities can be set up for affordable quality of
life, both for their founding members and for future generations.

How do you do it?
What are the opportunities?
What are the challenges?
Where do you start?

Mark Snell is chairman of Equilibrium Community Ecology Inc, a community-based non-profit eco-village group on the NSW Central Coast, which operates an online Co-operative Living Information Service (www.coopliving.info). He was written papers and spoken at a number of conferences on the topic of “Affordable Housing through Co-operative Ownership”, proposing a cost-based approach supported by a co-operative ownership fund. He has an interest in how co-operative communities are affected by planning and building law and has recently submitted a paper about owner-building to the Review of the NSW Home Building Act. Mark lived for five years at the Moora Moora Co-operative Community Ltd in Healesville Victoria, a community settlement co-operative that remains successful after more than 30 years. He continues to visit regularly. Mark is honorary editor of the Peninsula News, Woy Woy, and president of the Central Coast branch of the Australian Conservation Foundation.
